Dark circles are among the facial blemishes that bother us most and that we would like to get rid of.
An effective treatment introduced for this is carboxytherapy, a version of mesotherapy based on injections of carbon dioxide.
How dark circles form
When we talk about dark circles, we mean all those conditions that lead to having a dark, often swollen area under the eyes.
Although almost always a purely cosmetic phenomenon, sometimes dark circles under the eyes are a symptom of an ongoing condition.
The main causes that lead to the formation of these marks are aging, stress, poor diet, and lack of sleep.
Remedies for this condition are various. Among the most effective is carboxytherapy, a technique introduced a few years ago with effective results.
Carboxytherapy for dark circles
The presence of dark circles under the eyes is a trouble for many of us. And carboxytherapy can help with this.
It is a technique that, through CO2, distens, oxygenates and rebalances the skin.
On dark circles, the effect is evident as, after a series of sessions, dark circles are dramatically reduced.
Treatment features
Carboxytherapy treatment for dark circles consists of a series of injections under the eyes.
The working principle is related to the action of CO2 in the body. Once injected inside the body, this substance causes an immediate immune response from the body, which tends to oxygenate the area.
In fact, our body interprets the presence of carbon dioxide as an absence of oxygen and consequently requires its immediate restoration.
Contextually, it also increases blood circulation locally and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin which, in turn, alleviates the signs of dark circles and regenerates the skin.
Vascularization of the skin leads to increased blood supply and nutrients, which restores the skin’s natural balance.
What you need to know about carboxytherapy to dark circles
Since the therapy is based on carbon dioxide, the patient must not have any medical conditions that prevent its application.
Two days before the session, it is then recommended to avoid blood-thinning medications.
Following carboxytherapy, however, it is possible to experience some minor symptoms for a few days. Among the main ones are local redness and mild pain.
Post-treatment, it is recommended to rest from physical activities for 48-72 hours, while you can immediately return to your work.
How many sessions are needed
More than one carboxytherapy session may be needed to achieve the desired results.
In fact, depending on each patient’s individual condition, the treating physician determines the number of sessions that are recommended to follow, which on average is 4-6.
Each session should be spaced from the previous and subsequent sessions by at least one week.
Contraindications to carboxytherapy
- Among the main contraindications to carboxytherapy treatments are:
- Pregnancy or lactation
- Cardiac problems
- Kidney problems
- Propensity for the development of keloids
- Presence of ongoing infections
Other benefits beyond dark circles
In addition to dark circles, carboxytherapy can be used:
- Face, neck and décolleté, to treat acne and signs of aging
